Sept. 29, 2006 - Timothy Lake Ride OR.

Last year, the old bearded guy said, "Let's ride to Timothy Lake," but the snows came and it did not happen.

This year with the weather staying warmer he said it again. DUMB. Well not really. It was a great ride.

Let's have Ilene drive us up to Government Camp and ride down. Well, Government Camp is not at the top. We went over two passes on a main highway to get to the road to Timothy Lake - 15 miles. Then it was another 15 to the lake on a back road. Oh, there was Little Crader Lake two miles Down and I had Audrey thinking we were going back up. I am so mean.

We looked at the lake. It was so clear and blue; you could see 45 feet down into the lake and it was almost as clear as air. From there over a 7 mile hiking trail to Timothy lake. It was a warm day with no wind and when you were in the shade you were cold but in the sun you were hot. The trees were three feet through and so tall. When you stopped, not a sound.

There was this old road that was closed to cars, a wash out. We got on it. More up, then it fell out of the sky, and for ten miles - what a ride. 32.5 mph top speed on a mountain bike. On the roads Audrey wanted her street bike but on the trails and gravel the mountain bike did just fine.

Another 10 miles and a Detour to a gravel road by Harriet Lake. When you turned your bike, it didn't care; it just keep going the way it wanted. Only ten miles and thank goodness we were off of that road. Back to 224 and to Estacada and ice cream at Promitory Park - yea! Oh I forgot. When we were riding down hill on 224, there was a strong head wind that didn't seem right or fair. There was six dead Skunks on the road that worked like Smelling Salts to keep you going. On to the old high way and into Estacada. There we caught bus 31. It took us to my front door.

What a day - about 70 miles on a Mountain bike is just a lot of fun.

Audrey reminded me I found a lot of good loot 16 cents of cold hard cash, A Frommer’s book of Oregon, the American Flag And yes only one wheel weight. I am now so rich.

Byran on the side.
